Recology, an employee owned resource recovery and recycling company, announced that they reached one of their key 2028 sustainability targets three years early. Ninety-five percent of the fuel powering Recology vehicles and equipment came from renewable or alternative sources in 2025.
For more than a century, Recology has pushed to advance resource recovery. This year’s progress reflects years of investment, operational excellence and continued focus on safety and providing superior customer service.
Our 2026 Sustainability Update also highlights the following achievements:
- 1.6 million tons of recyclables and compostable materials processed.
- 49 percent more material recovered than discarded in our landfills.
- 1.7 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions avoided through recycling and composting operations – that’s nine times the emissions generated by all company operations.
- More than 95,000 metric tons of CO2e reduced in FY 2025 through stronger methane capture at their landfill, helping generate enough renewable energy to power nearly 20,000 homes.
These results reflect Recology’s ongoing efforts to keep materials in use through recycling and curbside composting.
Looking ahead, they will keep building on Recology’s long-standing leadership and strive to meet their 2028 Sustainability Targets including:
- Powering facilities with 100 percent renewable or carbon-free electricity.
- Using 75 percent of collected landfill gas to generate renewable energy.
