Organic refuse can include food and food-soiled paper, non-hazardous wood and green waste, and landscape and pruning waste. Containers are used to help move these materials to landfills and other settings. Materials may also be recycled for use as a valuable agricultural fertilizer with high water retention that also reduces soil erosion and improves soil nutrients and crop yields. This wide ranging array of handling applications involves the same in containment options. The following product types provide some examples.

Steel containers manufactured by Custom Container Solutions (CCS) are used by those in environmental and municipal waste settings, as well as the recycling and scrap, construction and demolition industries. CCS products include small front load cans to 10, 20, 30 and 40 yard roll offs. Maci Bower, marketing/communications specialist commented, “In the long tradition of Pennsylvania manufacturing, CCS is committed to providing the highest quality products and service to our customers as they work to enhance our environment. Our team of skilled welders and technicians take great pride in producing the most durable and user-friendly containers in the industry. We sell to everyone who needs a dumpster but our top sellers are the rectangular roll off, front load, rear load, and tub-style roll off.”

“CCS provides containers that keep our country clean, green, safe and growing. Our products make it possible for thousands of companies and their employees to safely dispose of residential and commercial waste and recycling material of all types. Our containers can also help ensure proper handling of hazardous materials from spills or industrial processes and aid contractors as they transform the landscape. Our motto is ‘Built to Move…Built to Last’.”

FleetGenius is a container and compactor solutions company for the environmental services industry. A manufacturer of metal waste containers and compactors in North Carolina since 1981, FleetGenius offers specialty organic food waste containers for composting industries.

Jackie Sanders, inside sales representative noted, “Organic materials present a unique set of containment challenges. The unique and durable design of our specialty organic containers can meet those challenges. As the trend of redirecting food waste from the landfills continues to grow, FleetGenius has developed special collection containers to properly contain the liquid waste generated by organics. The containers are water-tight and built to withstand bucket lift and front end load truck applications. A special epoxy coating protects the container interior and metal surfaces against highly corrosive organic waste. Custom designed, lock down lids control access and help avoid contamination.”

Nova Products designs and manufactures recycling and organic waste collection containers to help make municipal waste diversion programs more efficient, cost effective, and successful. The Nova team recommends a few key components to ensure any organics collection program is successful and industry compliant. This includes education via clear messaging with custom branding (hot-stamping) on the containers, containers that are easy to clean, and most of all, performs well despite the rigors of manual collection and outdoor conditions. Also, “we recommend providing options to our clients. Recycling and organic collection programs vary from city to city, and residents have unique needs, in terms of which container suits them best. Throughout the container design and production stages, we prioritize product durability and sustainability, and consider the diverse needs of the end-user,” explained Kayla Kleber, sales manager.

Nova Products has developed three sizes of containers designed for household organics collection. For outdoor collection, Nova’s wheeled 13 gallon curbside organics bin comes equipped with an animal lock to prevent pest access. “Containers are made from 100 percent high density polyethylene, are BPA-free and easy to clean. The taller handle design makes the bin easy to use. Organic collection and diversion have been common practice at Nova Products for many years, and our team is ecstatic to see more and more municipalities embracing food waste collection programs,” Kleber stated. “With increased legislation and policies surrounding food scraps and organic material landfill diversion, Nova Products manufacturing has expanded to meet demands. We have invested in additional tooling to support increased customer orders. It remains our top priority to supply our customers with durable and dependable products and to exceed customer expectations by providing prompt lead times on all orders.” said company president, Jake Bolton.
