ISRI Board to consider changes to recycled nonferrous specifications

ISRI, the “Voice of the Recycled Materials Industry,” board of directors will consider the following proposed amendments to the existing Saves and Scroll specifications at its upcoming Winter Board Meeting in Coral Gables, Florida.

SAVES
Old Zinc Die Cast Scrap

Shall consist of miscellaneous old zinc base die castings, with or without iron and other foreign attachments. Material can include zinc dies/molds for shoes or other industrial purposes. Must be free of borings, turnings, dross pieces, chunks, melted pieces and skimmings. All unmeltables, dirt, foreign attachments, and volatile substances (such as rubber, cork, plastic, grease, etc.) are deductible. Material containing in excess of 30 percent iron will not constitute good delivery.

SCROLL
Unsorted Zinc Die Cast Scrap

Produced from automobile fragmentizers. Material to contain about 55 percent zinc-bearing scrap. Other nonferrous metals such as aluminum, stainless steel,brass/copper/copper alloys, etc., to be about 40 percent. Insulated copper wire about 1percent. Trash, dirt, glass, rubber, oil, iron, not to exceed 5percent. Any variations to be sold by special arrangement between buyer and seller.

The full board may choose to adopt, amend, or reject the recommendations of the Division or table them pending further review. More information about the rules governing the procedures from the addition, amendment, or withdrawal of ISRI’s Specifications can be found in the ISRI Specifications (www.isrispecs.org). If adopted or amended, there will be an open comment period for 30 days following the vote by the Board.
