Steel shipments down 1.9 percent

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that for the month of April 2025, U.S. steel mills shipped 7,580,635 net tons, a 3.1 percent increase from the 7,356,130 net tons shipped in April 2024. Shipments were down 1.9 percent from the 7,725,314 net tons shipped in the previous month, March 2025. Shipments year-to-date in 2025 are 29,777,940 net tons, up 2.1 percent vs. 2024 shipments of 29,176,345 net tons for 4 months.

A comparison of shipments year-to-date in 2025 to the first four months of 2024 shows the following changes: corrosion resistant sheet and strip, down 1 percent, cold rolled sheet and strip, down 2 percent and hot rolled sheet and strip, down 2 percent.
