ReMA Board considers revisions to paper stock guidelines and HDPE inbound specifications

Following approvals by the MRF Committee, Plastics Division and Paper Division, the Recycled Materials Association (ReMA) board of directors will consider the following changes to single and dual inbound residential specifications and the Preamble of the Guidelines for Paper Stock and HDPE.

The Plastics Division and MRF Committee approved adding HDPE rigid can and bottle carriers to the inbound residential single and dual stream specifications.

Inbound Residential Single Stream
Description –A commodity mix of certain materials placed in specifically designated receptacles to be left at a drop off point outside their residence.

  • Plastic empty PET (#1), HDPE (#2), PP (#5), plastic bottles, jugs, jars and containers
  • Bulky rigid plastics such as crates, buckets, totes, baskets
  • Tubs and lids
  • HDPE rigid can and bottle carriers

Inbound Residential Dual Stream
Description – A commodity mix of certain materials placed in specifically designated receptacles to be left at a drop off point outside the residence resulting from dual stream collection systems that separate bins, or carts for paper and containers and/or collected in separate compartments on one or more trucks.

(Not to be Mixed with Paper)

  • Plastic empty PET (#1), HDPE (#2), PP (#5), plastic bottles, jugs, jars, and containers
  • Bulky rigid plastics such as crates, buckets, totes, baskets
  • Tubs and lids
  • Cartons
  • HDPE rigid can and bottle carriers

The board may choose to adopt, amend or reject the recommendations of the Divisions and Committee and table them pending further review. More information about the rules governing the procedures from the addition, amendment, or withdrawal of ReMA’s ISRI Specifications can be found at www.isrispecs.org. To submit comments, recommendations or questions, contact Emily Sanchez at esanchez@recycledmaterials.org. If adopted or amended, there will be an open comment period for 30 days following the vote by the board.
