City of Pittsburgh receives grant to modernize recycling

Green universal recycling symbol made of three interconnected arrows forming a triangleThe City of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has secured a $1.66 million grant to enhance recycling and yard waste services across the city.

Funded through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Solid Waste Infrastructure for Recycling program, the grant will support upgrades to environmental services operations, including investments in new vehicles and expanded curbside yard waste collection.

The funding will also improve Department of Public Works recycling drop-off sites with new pavement, fencing and two additional cardboard compactors.

To strengthen site safety and monitoring, security cameras will be installed at the Environmental Services headquarters in the Strip District and at other city locations.

City officials say the investments will help Environmental Services advance Pittsburgh’s long-term sustainability and waste reduction goals.
