Steel shipments down 1.4 percent

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that for the month of October 2024, U.S. steel mills shipped 6,987,092 net tons, a 4.9 percent decrease from the 7,346,373 net tons shipped in October 2023. Shipments were down 1.4 percent from the 7,083,141 net tons shipped in the previous month, September 2024. Shipments year-to-date in 2024 are 72,283,207 net tons, down 3.7 percent vs. 2023 shipments of 75,080,374 net tons for 10 months.

A comparison of shipments year-to-date in 2024 to the first 10 months of 2023 shows the following changes: cold rolled sheet, up 4 percent, corrosion resistant steel, unchanged and hot rolled steel, down 6 percent.
