SWACO expands list of accepted materials for recycling

The Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO) has expanded its list of accepted materials, including large computer monitors and more household hazardous waste such as oil-based, spray paints and latex-based paints at its Recycling Convenience Center.

The drive-up, self-service center was the first of its kind in Franklin County. It provides a convenient and accessible location for central Ohio residents to recycle a wide range of hard-to-recycle materials such as used oil, Styrofoam, batteries, electronics, clothing and food waste, mostly free of charge.

Since its opening just four months ago, the center has serviced nearly 400 central Ohio residents and has diverted nearly 45,000 pounds of material from the Franklin County Sanitary Landfill.

“We are thrilled to report the impact our new Recycling Convenience Center has had on the sustainability and environmental vitality of our region,” said SWACO executive director Joe Lombardi. “We know our community cares about practicing more sustainable habits and lifestyles and SWACO will continue to do all we can, including growing this list of acceptable materials, to foster a more sustainable region. Earth Month is a great time to reflect and celebrate the impact we’re having, together.”

Fees may be charged for some of the materials accepted at this facility.
