According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), approximately 17 billion pounds of office assets end up in U.S. landfills annually. From coffee filters, pods, stirrers and disposable cups to pens, binders, staplers and shipping supplies – single-use packaging is a pervasive problem in offices nationwide. To address this, international recycling leader TerraCycle has launched a new recycling solution, aptly named, “OfficeCycle,” to reduce the amount of office waste that could potentially end up in the trash.
“In the modern office, waste management isn’t just a responsibility, it’s a commitment to sustainability,” said Tom Szaky, founder and chief executive officer of TerraCycle. “TerraCycle’s OfficeCycle offers more than just a solution, it’s a reminder to everyone that small actions can make a big difference.”
When placed in high-traffic areas like mailrooms, break rooms or kitchens, the boxes available through OfficeCycle, provide employees with an environmentally friendly way to declutter without sending unwanted items to landfills or incinerators.
How OfficeCycle works:
- Order – Office staff order boxes that suit their needs, which are shipped directly to their place of work.
- Collect – OfficeCycle boxes are placed in designated high-traffic areas to easily collect the various categories of waste for recycling.
- Ship – The boxes are returned to TerraCycle via the pre-affixed UPS shipping label once full.
- Recycle – The office waste is recycled and kept out of landfills and incinerators.
