University of Akron receives grant to boost EV battery recycling

As part of an effort to promote recycling of electric vehicle batteries, the U.S. Department of Energy has awarded The University of Akron a $2 million grant to promote electric vehicle component recycling.

The University of Akron will use the grant money to keep plastics and polymers from electric vehicle battery packs from ending up in landfills. The grant money will also be used to retrieve and recycle the batteries, gathering the recoverable materials to create new batteries.

The Akron grant was among $45 million announced for eight projects around the country.
