Waco, Texas brings back glass recycling bins

Glass recycling is back in the city of Waco, Texas.

Purple glass recycling containers are free and available 24/7 to anyone, making it an easy way to recycle beverage glass bottles and food glass jars, closer to home and at your convenience. Only glass can be tossed in the containers –no bags or boxes in the containers are allowed.

The glass will be taken to Prestige Shredding and Recycling where it will be recycled – diverting it from the landfill.

Carole Fergusson of Keep Waco Beautiful said the program saw good results and leaders are hoping to keep the momentum going.

“We recycled more glass within six months than we did the entire year of 2022,” Fergusson said. “It’s a win-win for everybody – landfill is less full, which, down the road, costs us a lot of money and obviously a lot of emission. And then our residents are happy because they have the resources and accessibility to recycle.”
