WM begins construction of new recycling facility in Texas

WM has initiated construction on a new recycling facility in Fort Worth, Texas, which is expected to bolster recycling efforts in the city and the broader North Texas region.

In 2023, the City of Fort Worth endorsed WMʼs proposal for recycling processing services. Following the agreement with the city, construction of the new facility at 9600 Hemphill Street commenced.

The WM Fort Worth Recycling Facility, covering approximately 110,000ft², is designed to process up to 144,000 tonnes (t) per year of recyclable materials.

The facilityʼs technology aims to expand the range of plastics collected for recycling and improve the quality of materials for end users.

This will be achieved through the integration of sorting technologies, where conveyors and optical sorters will communicate with each other and technicians.

Additionally, the inclusion of an extra optical sorting line will enhance the capture of recyclable materials.

WM is currently processing recyclables for the city at the WM Arlington Recycling Facility. The plant is expected to become operational by the end of 2025.

This development is a part of WMʼs companywide investment exceeding $1bn in new and updated recycling facilities across North America from 2022 to 2026.
