World crude steel production for the 71 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 144.5 million tonnes (Mt) in December 2024, a 5.6 percent increase compared to December 2023.

Africa produced 1.9 Mt in December 2024, down 1.0 percent on December 2023. Asia and Oceania produced 106.3 Mt, up 9.0 percent. The EU (27) produced 9.6 Mt, up 7.2 percent. Europe, Other produced 3.3 Mt, down 14.3 percent. The Middle East produced 4.6 Mt, down 4.5 percent. North America produced 8.8 Mt, down 4.3 percent. Russia & other CIS + Ukraine produced 6.8 Mt, down 6.8 percent. South America produced 3.1 Mt, down 3.8 percent.
Top 10 steel-producing countries
China produced 76.0 Mt in December 2024, up 11.8 percent on December 2023. India produced 13.6 Mt, up 9.5 percent. Japan produced 6.9 Mt, down 1.1 percent. The United States produced 6.7 Mt, down 2.4 percent. Russia is estimated to have produced 5.7 Mt, down 8.6 percent. South Korea produced 5.2 Mt, down 3.2 percent. Germany produced 2.7 Mt, up 4.1 percent. Turkey produced 3.0 Mt, down 7.6 percent. Brazil produced 2.6 Mt, up 1.8 percent. Iran produced 2.6 Mt, down 8.2 percent.
