Blackroc Group, Australia, has lodged a development application for a state-of-the-art asphalt recycling facility in East Deep Creek, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure development and circular economy principles across Queensland.
The proposed facility, located on Metal Court in East Deep Creek, will process between 30,000 and 40,000 tonnes of asphalt annually, transforming reclaimed road materials into high-quality recycled asphalt products. Strategically positioned near the Bruce Highway transport corridor, the site has been selected to support efficient logistics and regional infrastructure projects while reducing the environmental impact associated with road construction and maintenance.
The facility is designed to divert significant volumes of construction and demolition waste from landfill, enabling valuable materials from existing road networks to be recovered and reused. By recycling old asphalt, Blackroc Group aims to support more sustainable road-building practices while reducing demand for virgin construction materials.
Environmental performance has been a key consideration in the facilityʼs design. The development application includes advanced dust filtration technology that captures fine particles generated during production and returns them to the asphalt mix, minimizing waste and improving air quality outcomes. A dedicated 692 square-meter bio-basin is also proposed to manage and treat storm water runoff before it leaves the site.
To further minimize impacts on surrounding communities, the proposal stipulates that pavement crushing activities will not occur during night-time hours.
The facility is expected to generate up to 92 vehicle movements per day, including the operation of 20 meter semi-trailers transporting recycled materials and finished products. As part of the development, road and intersection upgrades are proposed to ensure the safe and efficient movement of vehicles to and from the site.
