World crude steel production for the 70 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 144.2 million tonnes (Mt) in August 2026, a 1.2 percent decrease compared to August 2025.

Africa produced 2.1 Mt in August 2026, up 8.8 percent on August 2025. Asia and Oceania produced 106.7 Mt, down 1.4 percent. The EU (27) produced 8.9 Mt, down 1.0 percent. Europe, Other produced 3.8 Mt, up 1.2 percent. The Middle East produced 3.7 Mt, down 4.6 percent. North America produced 9.4 Mt, up 3.9 percent. Russia & other CIS + Ukraine produced 6.3 Mt, down 5.6 percent. South America produced 3.4 Mt, down 4.9 percent.
Top 10 steel-producing countries
China produced 74.6 Mt in August 2026, down 3.7 percent on August 2025. India produced 14.8 Mt, up 4.6 percent. The United States is estimated to have produced 7.3 Mt, up 3.0 percent. Japan produced 6.7 Mt, up 0.4 percent. Russia is estimated to have produced 5.5 Mt, down 0.3 percent. South Korea produced 5.4 Mt, up 2.6 percent. Turkey produced 3.4 Mt, down 0.4 percent. Germany produced 2.6 Mt, up 1.7 percent. Brazil produced 2.7 Mt, down 6.2 percent. Viet Nam produced 2.7 Mt, up 36.4 percent.
