Over 1,900 sanitation workers across Southern California represented by Teamsters Local 396 have ratified a new contract with the multibillion-dollar waste hauler Republic Services. Meanwhile, more than 1,400 waste workers at other companies represented by Local 396 continue to negotiate new agreements.
Local 396 represents thousands of men and women who provide trash and recycling services throughout Southern California including Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego counties.
“Our members should be very proud of winning such a strong contract,” said Victor Mineros, secretary-treasurer of Local 396 and director of the teamsters solid waste and recycling division. “At Local 396, this victory is just the start. We still have plenty of work ahead to bargain strong contracts for the rest of our members in the sanitation industry.”
Republic Services is the second-largest waste company in North America and reported $16.6 billion in revenue last year.
Founded in 1903, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters represents 1.3 million hardworking people in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico.
