The first free on-demand recycling service to collect any and all types of plastics, newBin, has established a plastics recycling partnership with Rehrig Pacific Company.
Rehrig Pacific will be a leading supporter of newBin and its collection pilot in the City of Erie, Pennsylvania, that will launch this summer. The initial roll-out of the newBin program will involve pop-up “drop off” events and neighborhood cleanups around the city — involving Erie residents by providing jobs for at-risk youth, education about the importance of recycling and grass-roots activism; encouraging all households to participate.
Rehrig Pacific has agreed to donate free recycling bins for plastics to be utilized in commercial venues, including local restaurants, and at concerts and parks, as well as provide front-load commercial containers for residential bag drops.
“Rehrig Pacific’s 100 year history is built on family, service, innovation, intrapreneurship and of course sustainability,” said Haag. “We understand the importance of supporting the communities where we operate and we believe that open and inclusive collaboration results in more impactful and scalable solutions that support systemic change.”
The newBin app will let users schedule recycling pickup at their convenience and earn digital rewards that can be redeemed for goods and services with participating partners. newBin’s vision is to offer simple, no-sort recycling of all plastics that incentivizes Americans to recycle more. A crowdfunding campaign for newBin, currently underway, offers an opportunity for investors, both large and small, to share in newBin’s mission to stop waste plastic piling up in landfills, parks, and waterways. Participants in the crowdfunding enjoy direct ownership in the recycling startup.
